If You Agree, Say I Will

The way the morning light hits different
the buildings outside your window
how singing to myself
only works
when the song
is something you enjoy
the one story you never
want to tell again
is our mirrored life
wave-like and not fun
the next story
you never want to tell again
the light the morning
of my leaving
how entwined the mirrors
how I kept a fake diamond ring
in my wallet
and asked you
at every chance
if you would marry me
there’s more to the light
than stories, here
with the summer coming
the summer going
here, what stays
except the leave-taking.

  1. I will. Or: I agree with this poem’s existence. <3

  2. I agree with Ewok’s agreeing with this poem’s existence. Lovely!
