About

Bloof Books is collective poetry press, publishing perfect-bound paperbacks, limited-edition handmade chapbooks, broadsides, fine art prints, and ephemera. We were founded in Central New Jersey in 2007, and relocated in 2021 to the Downeast region of Maine.

We are a member of CLMP (Community of Literary Magazines and Press). We are an independent small press—a micropress, in fact. We are “tiny by design.”

Our books are printed by Spencer Printing in Honesdale, PA, and BookMobile in Minneapolis, MN. We also distribute copies to the trade via Ingram, and offer them globally via POD network reaching online retailers everywhere. Our handmade chapbooks are printed and assembled in our own studio.

If you are not ordering directly from us, Bloof encourages you to support your local independent booksellers whenever possible. Most will be happy to order Bloof books for you, if they don’t already have them. That goes for your libraries too. (Just ask ’em.)

Bookstores may order direct from us at standard discounts (contact sales [at] bloofbooks [dot] com), or from Ingram in the US, and Bertrams or Gardners in Europe, etc. Libraries should also get in touch with us directly for institutional discounts, or may use Broadart, Ingram, or Ebsco.

The Bloof catalog is full through 2023. We do not read unsolicited manuscripts outside of our widely announced (though irregular) Open Reading Periods. Please understand that Bloof is a very small press, publishing only a handful of books a year, plus a few chapbooks. We do not have the resources to open for general submissions, and don’t feel it would be fair to pretend otherwise and waste anyone’s time. Instead, we do our best to keep up with what is happening in our favorite magazines, listen intently to the recommendations of our authors and friends, and are always on the lookout for poets whose work might be a good fit.

Starting in 2012, we have opened one month a year for chapbook submissions (as long as we are not running a backlog). In 2018, we opened for longer books for the first time. Email newsletter subscribers get advance notice of our open periods. Or you can follow us on Twitter, or Instagram. (We no longer really use Facebook.)

Please read this FAQ for more information about the way we work.
