If You’re Looking For a Sign (Redux)

If I didn’t know it was coming,
I might have thought, as Nat Turner did,

that the eclipse was divine intervention,
a message that the moment of rebellion was nigh,

because for months, we rocked the streets
with calls of intifada,
and at last the ground itself shook.

Oh God, I never needed a sign.

But if I must bear this pestilence,
make me braver for it:
I know I will live
to see the end of this world.
