Smudge Went for Kim Get Lin Short
Smudge went all enveloped in warmth— a curled cat sleeping thru elder afternoon
Smudge went all yawn-y & fly specks drizzled from mouth
Smudge went a little rotty but found the horror lackadaisical so decided to double-rinse
Smudge went gurgle gurgle like one world was ending while another world had yet to begin
Smudge went rickety bridge between two high points on a bald mountain
Smudge went hurry Peter! cross the bridge! before it breaks!
Smudge went bouncing from one disaster story to another the pages singeing
Smudge went hurry! [Peter] hurry! don’t fall! [into the gap between two worlds]
Smudge went shrug when Peter went but that nothingness is where the poem echoes back
Smudge went but that nothingness is where you fall & never stop & Peter went—
Smudge went immature like an unfeathered bird attempting flight
Smudge went reckless like a toddler on soft limbs hurling ever forward
Smudge went two eyes of unrelenting light
Smudge went all smudge-y it was their first disagreement but Peter went right into the nothing
Smudge went but friend my only true friend where have you gone
Smudge went all inward like a confused root stalling for time
Smudge went all indulgent as the distance he could hear the syllables of verse
Smudge went all dopey eye remembering Peter saying he’s got this
Smudge went all grateful like when a migraine disappears & silence comes as gentle blanket
Smudge went burning the bridge because the shortest distance is not always straight
Smudge went distant like something high up & cold in the sky
Smudge went meta needing to think about thinking
Smudge went shy but Peter kept singing in spite of inclination
Smudge went swaying letting them verses fall upon the face like snow
