Cedar Waxwing in the Birches

A gallery-quality giclée inkjet reproduction of my mixed media piece Cedar Waxwing in the Birches. Expertly printed by Maine Photo Works in archival inks on Epson Legacy Textured paper, a 100% cotton fiber paper with a weight of 305 gsm that looks similar to a cold-press watercolor paper.

Cedar Waxwing in the Birches features a gorgeous bird species I often see in a nearby birch grove. Vivid red waxy wingtips and distinctive multicolored plumage make them exciting to spot in the woods. Cedar Waxing in the Birches is from a mixed-media series that combines printmaking and digital painting: Each piece begins with the organic textures of my hand-printed papers, which are collaged and recolored, before the fine details are painted in Photoshop. Every mark and texture is handmade, even if added digitally. Cedar Waxwing in the Birches is a companion piece to Northern Flicker in the Birches—their color palettes work together perfectly since each bird has pops of red and yellow and is posed against silvery white birches in the background.
